When the Birds Sing

I woke up to birds singing this morning.

Not faintly or in the distance.

But clearly–like they were waiting for me to rise.

The early dawn carries a different kind of quiet. It isn’t empty. It’s expectant. And in that stillness, their songs feel intentional. If I didn’t know any better, I would think they were calling out to me.

Truthfully, I do believe that.

Yes, the birds were singing just for me.

To awaken me.

To remind me.

To pull me into the present.

There is something spiritual about being called into the day before the world begins to rush. Their chirps cut through lingering thoughts, through the fog that sometimes lingers after sleep. And for a moment, I was fully here.

Fully listening.

Their melodies make me think of the songs that usher in spring. The kind that feels like transition. The kind that doesn't demand attention but gently announces something new is coming.

Sometimes it’s the robin’s call–the bird people say signals angels nearby. Sometimes it’s the steady hum of rain rinsing winter from the air. A cleansing. A loosening. A quiet preparation for bloom.

These sounds are reminders that life does not ask permission to return. It simply does.

Leaves sprout without apology.

Flowers open without doubt.

Bees buzz without hesitation.

The dew on Roses shine like jewels in the first light of morning.

The earth does not second-guess the season.

It responds.

And as I lay there listening, I realized I am being invited to respond too.

Not dramatically or loudly. Just faithfully.

A new day has dawned. Spring is near. A new season is preparing to hand me what I need–not necessarily what I want, but what I need.

The birds seem to know this. They do not sing out of anxiety. They sing out of knowing.

Just listen.

Watch the earth blossom and you’ll see what is possible.

I am not telling you to believe in fairy tales.

I am asking you to trust.

Have faith in seasons and in the quiet shifts you cannot see yet. Just as surely as the night gives way to morning, joy is surely yours for the taking.

And maybe the birds aren’t just singing to me.

Maybe they are singing to all of us, reminding us that something new is always on the way–even when we cannot yet see the leaves.
